OVA1 blood test detects Ovarian Cancer

Five proteins that are known to change with ovarian cancer are detected by a new blood test called OVA1. This test, recently US FDA approved, is not yet indicated as a screening or confirmatory test. The FDA has noted its promising impact on public care as an indicator for prompt referral to a gynecologic oncologist prior to an exploratory laparotomy or a biopsy procedure. Studies demonstrated that survival rates with ovarian cancer are higher when performed by a gynecologic oncologists.
